A public lecture by MAX LANE

Max Lane is a freelance writer, translator and academic. His new book, Unfinished Nation: Indonesia Before and after Suharto (Verso Books, 2008), begins a discussion of the contradictions inherent in the processes that led to Suharto’s overthrow. He is also known for his translation of the works of Indonesian dissident novelist Pramoedya Ananta Toer; among these:  This Earth of Mankind (1996), Child of All Nations (1996) and Glass House (1997), all published by Penguin Books.

Max Lane also authors of Urban Mass Movement in the Philippines (ISEAS, 1990) and Openness, Political Discontent and Succession in Indonesia (Griffith University, 1991), as well as hundreds of popular articles in Inside Indonesia, The Jakarta Post, Green Left Weekly and other publications. He is currently a Fellow at the Department of Malay Studies, National University of Singapore.
